"The Docks" by Paul Smith
You are a dock-worker. You are surrounded by thousands of large metal freight boxes which are being kept in storage after being off-loaded from the boat moored in the main dock. You are directing Harry, the crane-operator, as he lowers one of the 5 tonne crates into position.
"Just a little bit further," you say into your radio. There is no response from Harry. The crate does not move.
You look up at him and start waving and shouting to get his attention, but he seems totally oblivious to you. He is staring at something you cannot see. Something hidden behind the wall of huge steel crates that surrounds you. Whatever it is, it must be pretty damned impressive to get Harry's attention.
Just as you are about to go and investigate, your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of shrieking metal. The sound of one of the ten thousand pound crates being ripped apart like wet taffy. Suddenly, the metal abruptly stops screaming. A fraction of a second later, the mangled remains of one of the huge boxes flies over your head, smashing into the pile of crates opposite you, knocking them down like a house of cards.
Whatever did that is clearly a hell of a lot stronger than you. What do you want to do now?
